Do your December mornings feel as magical as they could? The crisp winter air, the twinkling lights, and the promise of holiday cheer make this time of year truly special. Starting your day with a thoughtful routine can help you embrace the season and set a positive tone for the day, because I know how hard the holidays can be on us that create all the magic. Here’s how to craft a magical morning routine that will make your December days shine. So you don’t start being a Grinch.
1. Wake Up with Intention
Instead of hitting snooze, and I know we all like to do that. Well, I know I do. Take a moment to embrace the day. Open your curtains to let in the soft morning light or turn on fairy lights for a cozy glow. Play a calming or festive playlist to wake yourself up gently.
Tip: Keep a gratitude journal by your bed. Write down one thing you’re looking forward to and one thing you’re grateful for. Reflecting on gratitude can enhance the holiday spirit and create lasting memories during this special time of year. I love reading back on all of mine. 📖
2. Warm Up with a Morning Beverage
There’s something magical about starting the day with a warm drink. Whether it’s a spiced latte, peppermint tea, or classic hot cocoa, take a moment to savor it. Use a favorite holiday mug to add a festive touch. For me it is coffee, it keeps me human, kind, and awake most days. Festive first thing might be a push but maybe very slightly jolly.
Tip: Add a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla to make your drink extra special.
3. Move Your Body
Gentle movement can help wake up your body and mind. Try a short yoga session by the Christmas tree or go for a brisk walk if the weather allows. Moving in the morning boosts energy and sets the tone for a productive day. For me, If I walk down the stairs to the coffee machine I am doing great!
Tip: Wear a festive scarf or mittens for an outdoor walk to embrace the seasonal spirit. I keep an exercise ball in the house and sit on it and bounce at the minimum it gets the blood flowing.
4. Create a Cozy Breakfast
December mornings call for comfort food. Think warm oatmeal with cranberries and a drizzle of maple syrup or toast with homemade jam. If you’re short on time, prep breakfast the night before, like overnight oats or a holiday-inspired smoothie.
Tip: Add seasonal flavors like nutmeg, gingerbread, or apple to your breakfast to enhance the festive feel.
5. Set Your Intentions for the Day
Take a few moments to plan your day. Light a candle, use a festive planner, or simply jot down your top three priorities. Reflect on how you can spread kindness or joy to others during this season.
Tip: Write a little holiday note to a loved one or plan a small act of kindness to bring holiday cheer to someone’s day.
6. Indulge in a Quick Self-Care Ritual
Pamper yourself with a winter skincare routine or a festive-smelling lotion. A five-minute meditation or reading a few pages of a cozy book can also work wonders.
Tip: Use products with holiday scents like peppermint, pine, or vanilla to enhance the seasonal magic.
7. Embrace the Holiday Spirit
Spend the last few minutes of your morning enjoying something festive. Decorate a small corner of your home, listen to your favorite holiday song, or place a piece of chocolate from an advent calendar in your pocket for later.
Tip: If you’re doing Elf on the Shelf, take a moment to set up something fun for the day.
Make It Your Own
Remember, this routine is just a guide. The key is to tailor it to your needs and what feels magical to you. Whether it’s adding in time for prayer, reflection, or extra cuddles with your pets, make your December mornings uniquely yours.
By starting your mornings with intention and a sprinkle of seasonal magic, you’ll find yourself more energized and ready to enjoy all the wonders of the holiday season. Why not take the first step tomorrow? Pick one idea and see how it transforms your morning! Here’s to a December filled with warmth, joy, and magical mornings!

Happy cleaning and happy mornings!

How have I never thought of easing into getting out of bed, rather than racing out of bed at the sound of my snoozed alarm?! It’s the best of both worlds. I’m still laying in bed but preparing to wake up instead of sleeping poorly for another 10 minutes. Love this!
I try hard not to but some mornings there is that guy I live with haha.
