Latte Coffee drink

My Morning Coffee Ritual & Jenn’s Cozy Cinnamon Maple Latte

This is my time. My soft start to my day. My reset. And it all begins with a warm mug, a swirl of frothed cream, and a little peace poured into every sip.

There’s something sacred about those first few moments of the day. The house is still quiet, the pets are stretching in sunbeams, and I’m standing at my little coffee bar, half-awake, with Max weaving between my feet and Lulu giving me the side-eye like, “Make mine a puppuccino, please.”

Our Morning Love Language

Greg and I have been married for 35 years, and from the very beginning, coffee has been our quiet love story.

In the early years, he would wake me up with a hot mug in hand—a sweet, simple gesture that said, “I love you, I’m thinking of you, and I want to start the day with you.” It wasn’t grand or fancy, just honest and kind, like him.

Now, all these years later, things have changed. Greg’s health makes it hard for him to move around, so I’m the one who brings him the coffee. I warm the cup with care, add just the right amount of cream, and place it gently by his side. And even though the roles have reversed, the meaning hasn’t. It’s still our way of saying, “I’m here. I love you. We’re in this together.”

Coffee, in our home, isn’t just a drink. It’s a memory. It’s comfort. It’s a routine built over decades of shared mornings, sleepy conversations, and quiet understanding.

To me, the smell of coffee is the smell of home.
Not because it’s brewed perfectly, but because it carries with it love, laughter, and the comfort of familiarity.
It’s the start of our day—and the continuation of a promise we made a long time ago.

Today’s Special Drink: Jenn’s Cozy Cinnamon Maple Latte

This one’s my go-to treat-yourself morning hug in a mug. It’s creamy, cozy, and not too sweet—just the way I like it. And yes, it’s made with things I usually have right on hand. With a small hat tip to Canada and their wonderful maple syrup as we live right on the border.

What You’ll Need:

  • 8 oz strong hot coffee or espresso (I use my Keurig)
  • 1/2 cup half and half or milk
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon
  • A dash of vanilla (just a few drops)
  • Optional: a cinnamon stick for fun, whipped cream if you’re feeling fancy

To Make It:

  1. Heat your half and half gently in the microwave or on the stove—don’t boil it, just warm it.
  2. Froth it up! Use a wand frother, a mason jar with a tight lid (shake it), or even your blender for a few seconds.
  3. Brew your coffee, then stir in the maple syrup, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  4. Pour your frothed milk on top like a latte angel descended into your kitchen.
  5. Sprinkle a bit more cinnamon—or add whipped cream if the morning calls for it.

Then sit down, breathe, sip. Let the warmth meet your heart before the day starts asking things of you.

Why This Ritual Matters

It’s not just coffee. It’s home, love, self-care.

Setting aside five minutes to make something extra for myself reminds me that I’m worth it. That joy doesn’t have to be big or expensive—it can be a warm drink in a pretty mug at my little table by the window, while the dog snores and the cat glares at me because I didn’t share.

This drink, this moment—it grounds me. It makes the chaos of the day feel just a little bit softer.

You are perfect as you are. I love you. Happy sipping, and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye-bye!
